“Appeasement”

- Elymas -

5/12/2004

[Part one of three]

  Introduction

I will never forget the day when, while travelling with a friend, I lost my way in the big South African city of Johannesburg. I was driving, and when the red light changed to green, I took a wrong turn. For a while I followed the road, but not seeing any road signs, I took another road, which became a winding track, and so leaving the urban area behind us, we reached the wood.  From here I followed a sort of trail right into bush for a few more miles. The sun had already set by now and all round us was dark.

Then realizing I was driving in endless circles, I stopped the car and switched off the engine. That night we slept in the car, not daring to step outside, because of the danger of being mugged or even been killed by the local people.

This event, which happened to me while living in Africa in 1965, illustrates to me, in a metaphorically way, what it is happening to the Catholic Church today, in these last forty years, specially here in Australia.

Since Vatican II the Catholic Church in Australia (and elsewhere) has lost her compass and she is now following the Elymas path, i.e. going through the “wide gate”  - "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it.” (Matt 7:13)

Yesterday

The name Elymas means the magician[1] [Acts 13: 8-10]. He is the enemy of God and adversary to the Truth, since the outset of Christianity. His actions are hidden, because he hates the light. “For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed.” [John 3:20]

Today

The Elymases of today are the wolves in sheep’s clothing [Matt 7:15], the Crypto-Zionists[2] who are in league with the B’nai B’rith, Anti-defamation League and JDL, not few of whom now fill the ranks of the Catholic hierarchy, namely Cardinals and Bishops.

They are like “a hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away--and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.

The hired hand [who] runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep.’ [John 10:12-13]

Australia

In Australia the works of Elymas are like “yeast in the flour, until all of it is leavened" – as Jesus said: "Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees," [Mat 16:6]. The Elymas’ yeast is like a deadly poison, which corrupts the truth of Gospel; also it acts to hinder the shepherds from acting as shepherds. As Jesus says: “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering."  (Luke 11:52)

  “Appeasement”

I chose this title because it seems to me that the Australian Catholic Bishops are following a policy of appeasement, i.e. doing the least possible, rather than building a dynamic and Christlike community among the faithful. The bishops are there to occupy an ecclesiastic office rather than to fulfil a mission given by our Lord Jesus Christ, which is to preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God - not the kingdom of the United Nations [read One World Government].

By the same token “appeasement” is for the Catholic Church what political “minimalism” [moderate reform in politics] is for the government with the result of always changing and always the same”.

Buzzwords - The Wrong Road Signs

For anyone used to the double talk of some representatives of the Vatican, the word “appeasement” might first mean “reconciliation” (through ‘dialogue’, of course) and second, “apology” to every possible group, as the Pope is doing incessantly. However, it really means following the ‘party line’ of the worldly powers, that is keeping the status quo, while maintaining political correctness.

So it is hard for the ordinary man to understand what is the true meaning of a word, whether spoken or written, because often it is chosen for its ambiguity, or through wrong usage has developed a new meaning.

Moreover, Elymas has firmly established itself in Catholic organizations, such as the school system, seminaries, and in particular within the Australia Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
