- Parables - La cicada and the ant _ Classic version _
The weather is fine; the cicada thinks the ant is stupid. He laughs, dances and plays the whole summer. The winter comes and the ant rests in warm comfort, with plenty of provisions, while the cicada freezes in the cold without food, and dies. _ Updated Version _
Since the weather is so good, the cicada thinks that the ant must be stupid. Then when the winter arrives, the ant is warm and comfortable enjoying the food she labored for. Now the shivering unhappy cicada organizes a press conference, asking why the ant has the right to be warm and well fed, while others less fortunate die of cold and hunger. The television organizes some live documentaries that show the numb and shivering cicada; along with some shots of the well fed, comfortable ant with copious food on the table in its house. The viewers are shocked that in such rich country cicadas are allowed to die while others live in abundance. The union demonstrates in front of the house of the ant showing solidarity for the cicada, while journalists organize interviews about why the ant has became so rich at the expenses of the cicada, and demanding the government tax the ant more in order to pay its just contribution. In line with public opinion the government drafts a policy for anti-discrimination equal economical opportunity retroactive to the previous summer. The taxes have increased and the ant is fined for not employing the cicada as an apprentice; the house of the ant is foreclosed by the receiver, because it has no money to pay the taxes and fines: the ant leaves the country and establishes itself in Liechtenstein. The television presents a new report about the cicada, now well-fed, ending its supply of leftovers from the ant, though the spring is yet to come. The former dwelling of the ant, now state housing for the cicada, starts to deteriorate, because of the cicada’s and the government’s lack of concern. Now there are remonstrations against the government’s lack of social support. An opposition commission is created at the cost of $10,000,000. In the meantime, the cicada dies of an overdose while the press draws more attention to how urgent it is to look into social inequalities. The house is now occupied by immigrant spiders. The government felicitates about the country’s multicultural diversity, open and socially evolved. The spiders organize a heroin trade and a thieving gang, traffic in prostitute mantises, and terrorize the community. The leftist political party proposes integration, because repression engenders violence and violence draws violence.
