Truth

Riza asked his grandfather: “What is truth?” 

“My son”, replied the old man, “you ask me a very serious and hard question, indeed. I cannot easily give you an answer to your question, because Truth is a spiritual reality. We live in a physical world and we don’t see what is beyond it. But I’ll tell you a story to help you to understand: 

There were once three young sisters, whose names were Beauty, Goodness and Truth. They lived in a happy country where death, sickness, poverty and other forms of evil did not exist. The three young sisters were always loving to everyone in town, especially to the children. When the three sisters were together, which was most of the time, they were a real joy to their family and the people around them. 

But the times Truth was not with Beauty and Goodness, these two started arguing, fighting and being nasty to each other till the people in town would say to them, “Beauty and Goodness are but names, but now you are Ugly and Evil”.          

One day, Truth left town for another far away Land. At first Beauty and Goodness consoled each other for they were very sad indeed, because they missed Truth deeply. Soon though, they started arguing, fighting and being nasty to each other, for Truth was not with them any more.

There and then death, sickness, poverty and all sorts of evil things came to visit them... Happiness was gone from among the people too, and everybody was against everybody else. 

Riza said: “Nonno, are you telling me that Truth is the bond between Beauty and Goodness: without it there is no real Beauty and Goodness in Life, and so no Happiness on Earth?” 

“Yes, indeed, my boy,” answered the grandfather. “As you see Beauty, Goodness and Truth are inseparable – they are three but they are one. 

These three are the prerogative of God. God alone possesses them in full, for He is Beauty, Goodness and Truth Himself. What we know in this life of Beauty, Goodness and Truth is only a shadow of the real thing, for we are only human.” (See 2 Co 5:7)
